Dear First Tee of Greater Wilmington families,

With our school programs ready to start this spring season at our facility and the launch of our golf course-based programs next week, I wanted to reach out to all of our stakeholders to share information regarding the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19). After reviewing available information related to the spread of COVID-19 from the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) as well as the Center for Disease Control (CDC), we are suspending the first two weeks of Spring program offerings, beginning Monday, March 16, 2020. At this time, we are still anticipating being able to get all scheduled eight weekly sessions in with this delayed start.

Our first concern is for the safety of all involved; including, but not limited to, participants, parents, volunteers, coaches and staff.  Our decision rests with the realization of the close interactions between all people involved with our First Tee programs.

Furthermore, we will also follow the lead of the New Hanover County school system as to the future possibility of cancelling all classes going forward.  We will update this notice no later than Thursday, March 26, 2020 as to the next steps, if any, to be taken.

We will continue to monitor updated NCDHHS and CDC reports and will communicate any updates if necessary. Additionally, I wanted to pass along a few precautions that you may find useful.

People are encouraged to take common sense precautions to prevent the spread of all infectious diseases, including COVID-19.

  • Wash hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds at a time.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are ill.
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze.
  • Do not reuse tissue after coughing, sneezing or blowing your nose.
  • Clean and disinfect surfaces that are frequently touched.

If you are a parent or caretaker for one of our First Tee participants, thank you all for trusting us with the safety, health, and well-being of your child. For everyone else and our volunteers, thank you for investing your time, talent, and mentoring skills to allow us to serve our community through our character education programs. We are lucky to have each and every one of you as a part of our First Tee Family!

Sincerely,

Randy Hofer
